State Representative Doug Wozniak from Shelby Township has expressed approval of the Michigan House of Representatives' decision to pass a balanced education budget. The budget aims to prioritize students and maintain fiscal responsibility. However, Wozniak voiced his frustration over the Senate's actions, which he believes are delaying the overall budget process.
“The House has done its job by passing a good, balanced K-12 budget that reflects the needs of Michigan families,” said Wozniak, who supported the House plan on June 11. He criticized Senate Democrats for stalling progress and promoting an unbalanced budget, stating, “That’s not how responsible government works.”
The approved $21.9 billion K-12 budget includes strategic investments aimed at enhancing student success, academic improvement, and financial transparency. It proposes $12,000 in per-pupil funding for each public-school student and allocates $314.5 million in grants designed to help schools reduce class sizes, improve reading outcomes, consolidate facilities, and enhance infrastructure.
Wozniak emphasized the need for collaboration between legislative bodies by saying, “The people of Michigan expect us to govern. It’s time for the Senate to stop dragging their feet and work with the House to deliver a balanced budget that respects Michigan taxpayers.”
