State Representative Doug Wozniak, a Republican from Shelby Township, has expressed his support for a legislative initiative aimed at bolstering Michigan's defenses against foreign threats. The plan seeks to protect residents, ensure state security, and maintain economic stability.

The proposed legislation includes House Bills 4233–4235 and 4238–4242. These bills are designed to tighten restrictions on foreign entities identified on federal watch lists, thereby preventing them from gaining influence in Michigan's economy, education system, and public sector.

"Michigan cannot afford to ignore the threats posed by hostile foreign nations," Wozniak stated. "Our state must be a place where the safety of our people, institutions, and resources come before foreign interests. We must act before these risks materialize, not after damage has been done."

The legislative package responds to concerns about the influence of countries such as China within Michigan. Recent developments involving Chinese-owned battery plants in Marshall and Big Rapids have raised alarms due to their proximity to National Guard bases and other critical infrastructure.

"Protecting Michigan’s future should be a shared priority for all lawmakers," Wozniak said. "I’m proud to support these vital protections."

The proposed measures include several key provisions:

- Blocking prohibited apps on government devices to prevent foreign entities of concern from collecting sensitive information.

- Ensuring that public schools, colleges, and universities do not accept grants with anti-American conditions from foreign countries of concern.

- Prohibiting public bodies from entering into binding agreements with foreign countries of concern.

- Preventing public economic incentives from being awarded to foreign entities of concern.

- Protecting personal health information by ensuring healthcare record technology is maintained physically in the U.S. or Canada.

- Preventing entities of concern from purchasing land near military bases and other critical infrastructure.
