State Representative Doug Wozniak of Shelby Township has expressed support for a set of proposed bills aimed at prohibiting sanctuary city policies in Michigan. The bills, according to Wozniak, are intended to ensure that state resources are utilized to support the enforcement of the law.
"Michigan communities must not become safety nets for individuals who break the law," stated Wozniak. "Sanctuary policies undermine law enforcement, compromise public safety, and violate the trust of law-abiding citizens. This legislation makes it clear that the rule of law matters in our state."
The legislative package, comprising House Bills 4340 through 4342, aims to restrict local governments from implementing policies that obstruct federal immigration law enforcement. Additionally, these bills propose to limit the allocation of state funds and services to any local government or organization that adopts sanctuary policies.
"Our communities deserve to feel safe and know that our laws are being enforced fairly and consistently," Wozniak asserted. "These policies are about protecting Michigan families and ensuring accountability at every level of government."
The discussion surrounding sanctuary city policies continues as the state deliberates on the implications of such legislative measures.
