West Road Rehabilitation Underway in Washington Township

The Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) announced that rehabilitation work on West Road, between Van Dyke Avenue and Mound Road, started on July 5 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of September. Eastbound traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the project while westbound traffic will be closed. Drivers should expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible.

“These projects are critical to address the infrastructure needs of our region," said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. "We will continue to work with our local partners and fight for the funding to help fix our roads and bridges.”

The West Road project is part of more than $80 million in road, bridge and traffic improvements being made throughout Macomb County this year. The rehabilitation project includes pavement milling, base repairs and an asphalt overlay.

“We work closely with our local municipal partners to provide the public with a quality transportation system,” said MCDR Director Bryan Santo. “Through our construction and maintenance programs and community partnerships, Macomb County will see significant work, including West Road, as part of our continuing effort to strengthen and enhance our roads, bridges and transportation network.”

MCDR’s 2022 schedule includes 13 primary and local road projects and 10 bridges and culverts, in addition to 38 asphalt resurfacing and concrete pavement repair projects as part of the Department of Roads county-wide pavement preservation program. Work planned also includes six township residential street locations as part of MCDR’s subdivision reconstruction program, which is an application based program that provides funding assistance to townships for subdivision roads. The Department of Roads also has multiple maintenance projects and traffic technology and communication network modernizations planned this year.

“Washington Township is dedicated to improving the roads for our residents and community,” said Washington Township Supervisor Sam Previti. “Projects such as West Road demonstrates what townships, working in partnership with Macomb County and the Department of Roads, can do to further enhance our roadways and infrastructure through collaboration and cooperation.”

To help Macomb County motorists and road users navigate local construction work, MCDR launched the Macomb Work Zone – a weekly email built to keep motorists informed and up to date of what's happening on the roadways.
