Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14. United States Letter Carriers throughout the country will be out and on a mission to diminish the problem of food insecurity in America. The 30th Annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be in Macomb County neighborhoods and picking up donated food from mailboxes.

“The food drive is critical to our mission to feed the hungry in Macomb County," said Shannon Mallory, program manager for the Macomb Food Program. “The Macomb Food Program receives many donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season, but by spring our pantry shelves start to become depleted.”

Donations collected on this day provide emergency food supplies for thousands of families and individuals, including veterans, seniors, children and the homeless throughout Macomb County.

"The importance of the second Saturday in May is always front and center for the letter carriers and their postal coworkers, family and community volunteers,” said Ernest Cawvey, director, Macomb Community Action. “Help us spread the word. The 30th annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger food drive is helping to feed the hungry in Macomb County. “

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

On this day, residents are encouraged to stuff a bag or 2, full of non-perishable, non-expired food and leave it on your porch or near your mailbox. The United States Postal Service letter carriers and a league of volunteers will do the rest. All of the food donations will stay in Macomb County and will be distributed to those in need through the Macomb Food Program's network of over 50 food pantries and hunger related organizations.
