State leaders recently announced more limitations on Michigan citizens, such as lockdowns and regulations, but the Mackinac Center for Public Policy is calling for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Legislature to abolish some regulations so that hospitals can fight the COVID-19 pandemic without restrictions.
This includes orders that roll back laws on hospitals and health care workers to allow them to better fight the increase in COVID-19 cases that require hospitalization.
This comes after the backlash the governor received over the last round of regulations and executive orders, the Wall Street Journal reported back in April.
"The focus in Michigan has been on limiting what citizens can do. But there is something else that government can do -- get out of the way," said Lindsay Killen, vice president for strategic outreach & communications at the Mackinac Center. "Earlier this year, Gov. Whitmer smartly rolled back 'Certificate of Need' regulations on medical providers and licensing rules on workers. The state should suspend laws that limit hospitals and workers to help Michigan fight the virus."
