A tele-town hall meeting, hosted by Sen. Michael MacDonald (R-Macomb Township) and guest speaker Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Sen. Jim Stamas (R-Midland) in late October, had a turnout of 2,774 Macomb County residents.

The tele-town hall meeting is a conference call via telephone where attendees can ask questions. MacDonald and Stamas went over the 2021 fiscal year state budget during this meeting.

“I want to thank everyone who participated in Thursday’s successful tele-town hall meeting,” said MacDonald, according to MiSenateGOP. “The tele-town hall forum allows us to talk with thousands of families and job providers safely and effectively about what we are doing to protect area residents and improve our state. It also offers us a chance to hear from the people about their goals and take direct questions on important issues facing our state and region."

Residents asked questions regarding unemployment, the mask mandate, election-related questions, guns in the Capitol, future lockdowns and COVID-19 protective measures passed by the Legislature.

Residents were asked to submit their responses to several poll questions. When asked, the top issue for the Michigan Senate to address in the next few months are COVID-19, crime and public safety.

When life in Michigan was brought up, 60% said that things in Michigan are going somewhat or a little better, 10% said no change and 30% said somewhat or a little worse.

“It’s always great to answer smart questions from Macomb families and to hear what is most important to them,” MacDonald told MiSenateGOP. “While it’s good to see life is getting better for most people, there is still work to do, and the pandemic continues to the biggest issue facing our state.”

Coffee hours will be held in a safe manner throughout the district, according to MacDonald. Residents who weren't able to take part in the tele-town hall or coffee hours may contact MacDonald's office toll-free at 866-303-0110 or by email at SenMMacDonald@senate.michigan.gov.
