Sen. Michael D. MacDonald (R-Macomb Township) said he fully supports a Senate Republican plan to help Michigan workers return to work, according to MiSenateGOP. The plan will determine which counties are ready to open and which counties need to remain closed.
The plan includes a task force that would make sure safety is a priority and determine when would be the best time to put the state’s economy back online.
MacDonald praises Macomb Township families for effectively dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. “Macomb families have done a great job rising to the challenge during this extraordinary time, and we need to continue doing our part to protect our communities,” he said, according to MiSenateGOP.
MacDonald also says that it is time for Michigan to start transitioning back to normalcy.
“While our battle against COVID-19 continues, we need to begin planning for a transition back to normal life. I was disappointed the governor’s extended and expanded stay-at-home executive order failed to include commonsense changes to allow many workers to safely return to their jobs, as long as health and safety protocols are implemented and followed,” MacDonald told MiSenateGOP.
“Instead of trying to define what work is essential, we should be focusing on what work can be done safely,” MacDonald said, according to MiSenateGOP. “I hope the governor will seriously consider this plan as a way to safely enable more Michigan workers to support their families and our economy while also protecting themselves and others.”
The new plan would allow low-risk companies to operate during phase one. According to the plan proposal, a low-risk business is one with little to no physical contact between the company's employees and the customers who visit. Companies that can operate without any required physical contact with others would be allowed to resume work immediately if the plan were implemented.
