Mark Hackel issued the following announcement on Jan. 10.
The Kroger Co. will unveil its new $35 million grocery store at 18 Mile and Dequindre roads in Sterling Heights next week, the latest in the chain's building program. The new Kroger Marketplace will replace an existing Kroger store across the street on the south side of 18 Mile.
The existing Kroger location will shut down for good at 5 p.m. Tuesday and the new one will open to the public at 8 a.m. Wednesday inside of the Windmill Plaza shopping center, according to Lauren Montalbano, an associate communications manager for the Cincinnati-based grocer. More than 250 people will be employed at the grocery store. Anyone interested in joining the Kroger team should visit jobs.kroger.com.
The first 600 customers when the store opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday will receive a $10 Kroger gift card and a free reusable shopping bag during the grand opening. There will be food samples and other specials throughout the day. The new Kroger Marketplace, 2051 18 Mile Road in Sterling Heights, will be open 6 a.m.-midnight daily.
