State Representative Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) has welcomed a $2.5 million allocation from the state budget for the Oakland Macomb Interceptor Drain Drainage District. The funding will support the construction of an odor and corrosion control facility in Sterling Heights, aimed at addressing persistent sewer odor issues that have affected local residents and businesses.

The planned facility is designed to reduce sewer odors caused by hydrogen sulfide gas at a key junction where two major sanitary sewer interceptors meet along 15 Mile Road and the ITC corridor. This issue has been ongoing for years, impacting neighborhoods, parks, schools, and emergency services.

“This $2.5 million funding is a positive step forward for the Macomb and Oakland County communities,” said Wozniak. “I applaud the leadership and hard work of those who made it happen. Projects like this improve public health, protect infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for families, businesses, and public services in our region.”

According to officials, the new facility is expected not only to improve air quality but also to extend the life of existing sewer infrastructure by mitigating corrosion.
