State Representatives Alicia St. Germaine and Ron Robinson have announced that the final state budget will include $26 million in funding for Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County.
St. Germaine, a Republican from Harrison Township, emphasized the importance of the base to Michigan’s strategic interests. “Selfridge is one of Michigan’s greatest strategic assets, and this funding shows our state’s strong commitment to its future,” said St. Germaine. “With the arrival of 21 new fighter jets, and a squadron of KC-46A Pegasus Refueling Tankers, it’s all systems go for Selfridge. The Selfridge base will grow and create jobs, support families, and strengthen our national defense. I’m proud to fight for this in Lansing and to stand with our community in securing this important funding. The sound of these fighter jets flying overhead will be powerful reminder of the Sounds of Freedom.”
Robinson, who chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans Affairs, described the investment as an important development for both the base and local community. “This is a tremendous victory that sends shockwaves of optimism all across our state, and it all starts right here in Macomb County,” said Robinson. “Selfridge is a cornerstone of our community with a rich history dating back to 1917. In recent decades, it has fallen upon tough times, but today we are breathing new life into it and ringing in a new era of military excellence here in Michigan. With this revitalization, Selfridge will return to its former glory and regain its rightful place as the premier location for aerial superiority in the Midwest. Now, Michigan leads the way. That’s why we fought for this investment. I am grateful to everyone who worked tirelessly to make this possible.”
The representatives also noted that Speaker Matt Hall’s meeting with President Trump resulted in news that 21 new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets would be coming to Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
The $26 million allocation is seen by supporters as an important step toward ensuring continued operations at Selfridge while supporting job growth and military readiness.
