Chippewa Valley Schools issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.
Welcome Back!
School starts September 7th!
Over the summer we have been busy planning for the safe return of our 15,000 students.
Through the Safe Schools, Strong Schools bond program we have been making important safety improvements to our buildings, resurfacing parking lots, upgrading middle school tracks and scoreboards, and replacing the worn artificial turf at Chippewa Valley High School.
Our technology department is busy preparing thousands of new laptop computers for our exciting 1 to 1 computer initiative, sending out newsletters, and preparing special Tech Nights for our parents to enjoy. We hope that you will take advantage of those opportunities to learn more about technology in our school district.
School breakfasts and lunches will be FREE for ALL Students this school year paid through federal food service funds. (Only families that are income-eligible need to fill out the free and reduced lunch form to receive assistance.)
As we prepare for a return to full-time traditional learning nothing is more important than the safety of our students, staff, and community. We are maintaining our multi-layered mitigation strategies to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 -- things like social distancing wherever possible, hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer, ventilation systems, assigned seating, contact tracing, and outdoor recess when possible
While masks will be optional in our school buildings this fall, we strongly encourage ALL students, especially those that are not fully vaccinated, to wear a mask at school. It is a federal mandate that masks be worn on school buses.
We look forward to a great school year. If you have a question, call us at 586-723-2240, or use the ‘Contact Us’ button on our website.

Masks
Masks will be optional this fall. The wearing of masks will be determined by each family and individual. The Macomb County Health Department (MCHD) recommends that individuals, regardless of vaccination status, consider wearing a face covering while indoors, especially in crowded settings. CVS strongly recommends that students wear a mask in school.
Ventilation
CVS has up-to-date ventilation systems and filters that meet or exceed CDC recommendations for healthy airflow.
Masks on School Buses
The CDC requires masks on all public transportation, including school buses, regardless of vaccination status. All CVS students riding a school bus will be required to wear a mask.
COVID-19 Testing
Not required.
COVID-19 Vaccines
Not required. Based on Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and CDC guidelines, individuals that are fully vaccinated and remain asymptomatic will not have to quarantine if they are determined to be a close contact. The MDHHS, the MCHD, and the CDC recommend that all eligible individuals get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Hand Hygiene
Hand washing and hand sanitizer will be used frequently throughout the day.
School Meals
All school breakfasts and lunches will be free of charge for all students this school year.
Athletics
Chippewa Valley Schools is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). We will follow their protocols and guidelines for our school sports programs. Information will come from your child’s school and coach.
Visitors at School
Visitors will be limited at school. Only essential visitors will be allowed.
COVID-19 Reporting
Chippewa Valley Schools will work with the MCHD on contact tracing and COVID-19 reporting. We will maintain a COVID-19 Case Report on our website and will provide building level notification to staff and families.
Screening for Symptoms
Parents are asked to check their child each morning before sending them to school. Students that are sick should stay home from school.
Contact Tracing & Quarantines
CVS district nurses will work with the MCHD on contract tracing and will follow health department requirements for quarantines. Fully vaccinated students and staff who are asymptomatic will not be required to quarantine.
Cleaning & Disinfecting
Chippewa Valley Schools is committed to providing a clean and safe environment for our students, staff, and community. All student and staff areas will be cleaned and disinfected on a regular schedule.
CVVA
Students enrolled in the Chippewa Valley Virtual Academy (CVVA) will receive a district-issued laptop and be taught by highly qualified CVS educators online.
In-Person Learning
Our plan for the 2021-2022 school year is five full days of traditional instruction with food service, recess, locker use, and a return to after-school activities.
