MACOMB COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Michigan Boating Industries Association honors two at Macomb Community College with Lighthouse Awards

Macomb Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 1.

Development of new marine technician program prompts awards

Patrick Rouse, director, Workforce Development and Continuing Education, and Valerie Corbett, project manager, Workforce Education, Macomb Community College both received a 2020 Lighthouse Award from the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA) in appreciation for their work in helping the Michigan marine industry address the shortage of qualified technicians. Six others in the region also received the award.

Rouse and Corbett were honored for their work with the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development, and the Michigan Boating Industry and their partners in developing Macomb Community College’s new comprehensive marine technician training program. This five-week program develops the skills sets critical to helping the marine industry address its shortage of qualified personnel and provide individuals with entry into a dynamic field that offers year-round work. On completion of the program, graduates are prepared for in-demand jobs as marine service technicians with entry-level jobs offering salaries averaging $35,000 - $45,000 and including benefits.
