Sen. Dan Lauwers (R-Brockway Township) voted in favor of legislation to make sure Michigan students remain safe when school begins in the fall.
“After so much time away from school during the coronavirus crisis, Michigan children need to be back learning again,” Lauwers said in a press release from MiSenateGOP. “I am glad Republicans and Democrats were able to come together to finalize this plan.”
Under the bipartisan "Return to Learn" plan, school districts, with guidance from local health officials, will be able to decide what method of learning would be best for their district.

The plan also offers the flexibility for school districts to decide between in-person, online or a hybrid model. Regardless of which method the school district decides on, it will have to provide a full school year’s worth of instruction.
“This legislation enables parents and schools to make informed decisions about the learning plans best suited to students’ needs and safety,” Lauwers said, according to MiSenateGOP. “The plan also provides some financial stability to schools amid this crisis.”
