The next phone call Macomb County residents get could be a lifesaver.
William Ridella, director/health officer of the Macomb County Health Department, understands that people do not answer calls from unfamiliar numbers but stresses they keep an eye out for his office’s number.
“We have all been conditioned to avoid answering the phone if we do not recognize the number of the person calling, but during this time, a call from your local health department could be someone offering you important information regarding your health,” Ridella said in a release.
The MCHD and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are contacting Michiganders who have tested positive for COVID-19 and others who may have come into contact with them.
“We ask Macomb County residents to please answer these calls and return voicemails from the health department or the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services,” Ridella said in the release.
The calls, which may include an unrecognizable area code, are meant to be between health department staff and impacted county residents. In light of so many scam calls, the MCHD and MDHHS assure that they will not ask for insurance information or personal financial information.
