Schools in Michigan will receive more than $8.7 million in funding to replace their school buses with ones with more environmentally friendly ones.
The grants approved by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) are meant to introduce buses with propane or clean diesel engines to try and reduce emissions.
These buses will be distributed and will operate in 36 counties, according to Oakland Press.
Oakland Schools will receive 21 buses, which will total $515,000. Twenty-five diesel buses worth $600,000 will be handed to Chippewa Valley in Macomb County, while 30 buses totaling just over $700,000 will be given to Utica Community Schools.
Eight new diesel buses and 48 propane-powered buses will be taken to the Wayne County Regional Educational Services Agency, which will total $2.1 million in grant money.
Wayne-Westland Community School, Romulus Community Schools, Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Schools, Livonia Public Schools, and Huron School District will be the beneficiaries of the grant.
