City of Center Line issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
Moratorium on water shut offs for non-payment, and late fees ends in Center Line…
Are you behind on your water/sewer bill payments, and have been able to take advantage of the COVID-19 moratorium instituted by the State of Michigan which restricted communities from shutting off water for non-payment and application of late fees? On March 31, 2021, the State of Michigan’s moratoriums for water shut offs for non-payment and late fees ended with no extension approved by the State Legislature. From April 1, 2021 to August 31, 2021, the City of Center Line extended the policy to restrict water shut offs for non-payment of water/sewer usage, and continued the policy to not charge late fees, hoping those policies would further help those struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic.
On September 1, 2021, the City of Center Line is reinstating water shut offs for non-payment and applying penalties (late fees) in accordance with Center Line Ordinance Article II. – Offenses Affecting Governmental Functions; Section 46-52. – Payment
If you are behind on your water/sewer usage payment by more than 30 days, you will no longer be able to avoid water shut off for non-payment without a commitment from an assistance agency or payment plan through the City of Center Line or the WRAP Program. Furthermore, the city will return to assessing the 5% penalty for any amount owed to the city for water/sewer usage which is not paid by the due date of the billing cycle.
If you need assistance regarding non-payment of your water/sewer usage billing/invoice, please call the City of Center Line and our staff will work to help resolve your current non-payment status; and provide you with resources that may assist you in bringing your account current.
