The total number of Michigan residents who have ever tested positive for COVID-19 recently fell below the total number of people who have been vaccinated against the virus.
A total of 598,127 state residents had been vaccinated against the coronavirus as of Jan. 20, according to coverage by Michigan Capitol Confidential. In comparison, the total number of individuals who have ever tested positive for the virus in Michigan comes to 551,080, according to Michigan.gov.
But it is possible that the total number of positive tests is only a fraction of the actual number of Michiganders who were infected with the coronavirus, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that, from February through December of 2020, for every one person who tested positive, another 4.6 people on average had contracted the virus. The difference between positive tests and actual infection rates is attributed to those with mild symptoms who were not tested for the virus.
