Macomb County Executive issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.
Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel announced the appointment of Andrew Cox as the health officer of the Macomb County Health Department (MCHD). Cox, who previously served as the director of environmental health for the MCHD, replaces Bill Ridella, who recently retired.
“Andrew is a proven leader within the Macomb County Health Department who has played a pivotal role in helping our community respond to the pandemic and developed dynamic community driven public health programs,” Hackel said. “I am confident in his abilities and know that he is the right person for this job.”
Cox has been with the Health Department for eight years, starting as an emergency preparedness coordinator. In his most recent role as director of environmental health, he was responsible for managing more than 40 individuals in program areas like beach and surface water quality, food service sanitation, groundwater protection, environmental management and risk assessment, and shelter and waste management.
“I am honored to have been selected as the director/health officer for the Macomb County Health Department,” Cox said. “It is a privilege to serve my community in this manner and I will do everything I can to protect the health and wellbeing of our residents.”
Cox has a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and a master’s degree in Public Health, both from Michigan State University. He is married and has four children.
As specified by the State of Michigan Public Health Code, Mr. Cox’s candidacy has been transmitted to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for final confirmation.
