Michigan's top officials have been scolding citizens for perpetuating the spread of COVID-19, maintaining that people aren't respecting lockdowns and safety regulations, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.

Robert Gordon, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), has extended the current lockdown that prevents restaurants and bars from offering indoor service until Friday, Jan. 15.

“Because COVID is everywhere in our state and because sadly... we still have a lot of folks who are... we’re not doing all the things we need to do.... If we are all doing those things, we will get the virus under control,” Gordon said on the radio program "Michigan's Big Show." “But we’re doing these things partly, not all the way, so the virus continues to spread.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Gordon, along with other state officials, have regularly blamed Michiganders who they believe are not supporting health and safety guidelines designed to protect them from the virus, such as mask wearing, social distancing and respecting indoor gathering limits.
