Ten local businesses have been announced as recipients of $1,000 grants from the Shop Local Macomb campaign. The initiative, which is organized by the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development, encourages shoppers to give business to independently owned and operated establishments during the holiday season for the chance to win one of 10 $150 gift cards provided by First State Bank and a grant for the business they supported. In all, there were more than 775 entries. A drawing was held today with organizers selecting gift card winners and grant recipients. Winning businesses include:
- Armade in Michigan – Armada
- Coffee First Cafe and Bake Shoppe – Sterling Heights
- Dealers Discount Crafts and Floral – Center Line
- Filipo Marc Winery – Clinton Township
- Mother Earth Natural Health- Shelby Township
- New DJ Shop- Warren
- On the Bay Customs – New Baltimore
- The Little Mustard Seed Cafe – New Baltimore
- Toy Box – Utica
- Washington Street Wine House- New Baltimore
“It’s always a great way to start the holiday season when we can announce the winners of our Shop Local Macomb contest,” said Vicky Rowinski, director of MCPED. “Both shoppers and businesses benefit from the program in more ways than one and I’m proud of the collaborative effort that it takes to put the initiative together.”
Shop Local Macomb is coordinated by the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development with support from area chambers, including the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce and the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce.
