Introducing Lillian Demas, one of our 2022 ATHENA Award nominees.
Demas was the first female principal and the founding principal of the International Academy of Macomb, an International Baccalaureate High School.
She also served as a coach and mentor, through the MISD, in East Pointe Public Schools and Clintondale. Lillian served as the Macomb County Representative on the DIA Board of Directors and also served 2 terms on what was formerly Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Lillian was born in Greece, arriving in the US as a kindergartener. Interestingly, her maternal grandmother’s name was Athena.She is happily married to a fellow educator, and has 2 sons and 4 grandchildren.
