Clinton Township issued the following announcement on Jan. 13.

Township Supervisor Robert Cannon and the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce have announced the 2022 State of the Township Address, scheduled for January 28, will be postponed until March 16, 2022.

“It’s with a sense of duty and safety that we’re delaying the address until March 16,” said Cannon. “As it stands, the peak of this latest COVID-19 variant is expected right about the time we originally scheduled the address.”

Cannon mentioned he’s concerned about affecting nearby Henry Ford Hospital Macomb and McLaren Macomb Hospital’s capacity to handle an increase in patient admissions should the event in January become a “COVID spreader.”

“The hospitals are struggling right now with their large patient volumes,” he said. “We don’t want our event to become a source for continuing the spread of the virus, so all the good news we have to tell about Clinton Township can wait until March when hopefully, the pandemic is less of a concern.”

The rescheduled State of the Township address will be at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library, located at 40900 Romeo Plank Road, on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
